Step-by-Step Guide
Covers roller, zebra, and roman shades. Applies to both inside and outside mount.
Everything You Need to Know
All our shades install with the same bracket system — no contractor needed. Most windows take under 15 minutes from start to finish.

Good to Know
Keep the box until after installation. If you need to return or exchange, original packaging makes the process much easier.
Phase 1
Preparation

Unbox & Check Contents

Before drilling anything, lay out all the parts and confirm everything is included. A smooth install starts with knowing you have what you need.

1
Open the box carefully
Lay the shade on a flat surface. Avoid cutting too deep with scissors or a knife — the headrail can be close to the top.
2
Check the parts list
Your package includes: headrail with fabric, 2 mounting brackets, screws, and a valance (if ordered). Compare against the included parts sheet.
3
Inspect for damage
Check the headrail ends and fabric edges. If anything looks damaged in transit, contact us before installing — we'll make it right.
× × Level Use a level to keep marks aligned
Pro Tip
For outside mount, mark 2–4" above the window frame top. This hides the headrail above the glass line and makes the window look taller.
Phase 2
Marking

Mark Your Bracket Positions

Taking two minutes to mark accurately saves you from filling and repainting holes later. A pencil and level are all you need.

1
Hold the shade in position
Hold the headrail in your planned position — inside the frame for inside mount, or on the wall above for outside mount. Have a helper hold it level if needed.
2
Mark the bracket locations
Use a pencil to mark where the back of each bracket will sit. Standard brackets go at both ends of the headrail, roughly 1–2" from each end.
3
Verify with a level
Place a level across both marks. If they're not aligned, adjust one mark up or down until the bubble is centered.
4
Mark the screw holes
Hold each bracket against the wall at your mark and use a pencil to mark the screw hole positions through the bracket's mounting holes.
Tug to test hold Drill pilot holes first to prevent splitting
No-Drill Option
If drilling isn't possible, use the included adhesive strips (where applicable) or order our no-drill bracket upgrade. Suitable for light to medium shades on smooth surfaces.
Phase 3
Mounting

Mount the Brackets

This is the only step that requires a drill (or a strong hand with a screwdriver). Go slowly — pilot holes make everything easier.

1
Drill pilot holes
Using a drill bit slightly smaller than the screws, drill shallow pilot holes at your marks. This prevents cracking in wood frames and makes driving screws easier.
2
Secure the brackets
Place each bracket over its pilot holes and drive the screws firmly. Don't overtighten — snug is enough. The bracket should not wiggle.
3
Test the hold
Give each bracket a firm tug in different directions. It should feel solid with no movement. If a bracket wobbles, remove it, fill the hole, let it dry, and re-drill.
CLICK CLICK
Smooth Operation
If your shade doesn't raise smoothly, the spring tension may need adjusting. Roll the shade up manually two or three full turns, then re-hang it — this re-tensions the spring.
Phase 4
Finishing

Snap In & Test

The satisfying part. The headrail clicks into the brackets and your shade is installed. A quick test confirms everything works perfectly.

1
Angle the headrail in
Tilt the front of the headrail slightly downward and insert the back edge into the rear slot of both brackets at the same time.
2
Snap the front into place
Push the front of the headrail upward until you hear or feel a click at each bracket. Both sides should snap in at roughly the same time.
3
Attach the valance
If your shade came with a valance, press it onto the front of the headrail. It should clip on with light pressure and cover the bracket.
4
Test raise and lower
Operate the shade several times — fully up and fully down. Check that it moves smoothly and locks at any position. If it tilts, adjust the bracket height slightly.
