Measuring Guide

How to Measure Your Windows

Follow these simple steps to get the right measurements — inside or outside mount. Takes less than 5 minutes.

Inside Width Inside Height Min. 1.5" depth Measure at 3 points — use the smallest
Pro Tips
Use a steel tape measure for accuracy. Measure twice before ordering. Avoid rounding — enter measurements to the nearest 1/8".
Inside Mount

How to Measure for Inside Mount

Inside mount shades sit within the window frame for a clean, built-in look. This method requires a minimum of 1.5" of depth at the mounting point.

1
Measure the Width
Measure the inside width of your window at three points: top, middle, and bottom. Record the smallest of the three measurements. Do not make any deductions — we handle that automatically.
2
Measure the Height
Measure the height from the top of the window opening to the sill at three points: left, center, and right. Use the largest measurement to ensure full coverage.
3
Check the Depth
Measure the depth of your window frame at the planned mounting point. You need at least 1.5" for standard brackets, or 2.5" if adding a valance.
4
Enter Your Dimensions
Enter your exact measurements on the product page. We automatically deduct 1/4" from the width. Order to your measured size.
+3" +3" Outside Width Outside Height Add 1–2" below sill for full coverage Mount brackets 2–4" above frame top
Pro Tips
If you have multiple windows side by side, use the same height for all of them so the bottom edges line up. This creates a cohesive, intentional look.
Outside Mount

How to Measure for Outside Mount

Outside mount shades attach to the wall or trim above the window frame. This method works for any window regardless of depth, and gives you more control over light and privacy coverage.

1
Decide Your Width
Start with your window frame width. Add 2–3" on each side for full light block and a balanced look. The wider you go, the more light you'll block when the shade is closed.
2
Mark Your Bracket Height
Decide where to mount the headrail. We recommend 2–4" above the window frame top. Mounting higher makes windows appear taller and provides better light coverage at the top.
3
Measure the Height
Measure from your bracket mark down to where you want the shade to end. For full coverage, extend 1–2" below the window sill. Enter this total drop as your height.
4
Enter Your Dimensions
Enter the total outside width and total drop height on the product page. No deductions needed — what you enter is what you get.
